Know
your
instructor
Clifford Anthony, a recipient of several journalism awards, has more than 25 years of experience in reporting and copy editing.
Anthony is an assistant professor of journalism and adviser to the student newspaper at Lorain County Community College in Ohio.
He is the president of the Society of Professional Journalists' Cleveland Chapter, which has 140 members.
Before joining Lorain CCC in August 2008, Anthony served at Cleveland State University as a full-time journalism faculty member for three years and as an adjunct journalism faculty member for five years. In addition, he taught English composition at Lakeland Community College as an adjunct faculty member for eight years.
His areas of teaching include news writing, advanced reporting, specialized writing, copyediting and pagination on InDesign, oral communication and argumentative/persuasive writing.
Anthony, a Cleveland resident, has two master's degrees - one in Journalism from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, and another in English from Bombay University in India.
Anthony is a recipient of Points-To-Certificate program from Lakeland Community College. To qualify for this teaching certificate, a candidate has to attend a series of workshops.
He was the Geauga County bureau chief for The News-Herald, a daily published from Willoughby, Ohio, before joining CSU as a full-time journalism faculty member in fall 2005.
Recent
workshops and panel discussions
Conducted two workshops at the College Media Advisers' national convention from Oct. 27-Nov.1, 2009 in Austin, Texas. The topics were "Narrative Writing" and "Tips for Journalists to be Successful in the Middle East."
Participated in a panel discussion on First Amendment, which was organized by Student Life- Lorain County Community College on Sept. 17, 2009.

2000 The Press Club of Cleveland. Ohio Excellence in Journalism Award, Best Business Writing, first place in non-daily category, for a four-part series on Y2K, published in Sun Newspapers, Cleveland, Ohio.
2000 The Press Club of Cleveland. Ohio Excellence in Journalism Award. Best Business Section, second place in non-daily category, for Business First (Sun Newspapers). All stories for Business First were written and laid out by Anthony.
1999 The Press Club of Cleveland. Ohio Excellence in Journalism Award, Best Breaking News Report, second place in non-daily category, for a story on a pipe bomb found near a grocery store in South Euclid, published in Sun Newspapers.
1998 The Press Club of Cleveland. Ohio Excellence in Journalism Award, Best Business Section, second place in non-daily category, for Business First (Sun Newspapers). All stories for Business First were written and laid out by Anthony.
1996 Suburban Newspapers of America. First place, Best Coverage of Aging Issues and Senior Citizens’ Lifestyle, for a three-part series on grandparents raising grandchildren, published in Sun Newspapers.
